In 2009, we made steady progress towards securing protection for Oregon’s last Coast Range wilderness. With leadership from Rep. Peter DeFazio and Sen. Ron Wyden legislation to designate 26,000 acres of amazing forests and wild streams was introduced in Congress.

Hearings were held in relevant committees on Capitol Hill, with overwhelming support from land managers, conservation groups, and neighbors of the proposed Wilderness.

Now, in 2010, we need to be sure this momentum isn’t lost, and that this incredibly special place finally gets the protection it deserves. Rep. DeFazio and Sen. Wyden need to hear that you haven’t forgotten about the Devil’s Staircase Wilderness bill, and that they should push forward with passing this important legislation this year.

Take Action!

Call Wyden’s Portland office or fill out his contact form. Thank him for his past work to protect Devil’s Staircase Wilderness, and ask him to push for mark-up of the legislation so it can move out of committee and towards final passage.

Call Rep. DeFazio’s Eugene office or fill out his contact form. Thank him for his past work to protect Devil’s Staircase Wilderness, and ask him to work with Sen. Wyden to be sure Devil’s Staircase moves forward this year.
